Antwerp midfielder called up To Substitute Ndidi in Super Eagles AFCON 2023 Squad

Wilfred Ndidi has been omitted from Nigeria's 2023 Africa Cup of Nations battle because of injury.

The Leicester City midfielder aged 27-year-old was listed in the Super Eagles' 25-man squad on 29 December but was missing from his club side's win over Huddersfield Town on Monday.

Royal Antwerp of Belgium midfielder Alhassan Yusuf has been called up to substitute Ndidi.

Nigeria is still confident Ndidi's Leicester team-mate Kelechi Iheanacho will be capable to link the

Attacker Iheanacho, 27, has missed the Foxes' last two games in the Championship with a muscle issue.

Nigeria start their Group A competition against Equatorial Guinea on 14 January, and the West
Africans will also play hosts Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau in the group level.

For now, Rennes striker Amine Gouiri has pulled out from Algeria's squad because of a knee problem.

The North Africans have not named a substitute for the 23-year-old, who made his debut for the Fennecs in October after changing his international commitment from France.
