Nigeria's VictorOsimhen has been coroneted the 2023 African Footballer of the Year at the
Confederation of African Football (Caf) awards rite in Marrakesh.

The striker who playsfor Napoli defeated Egypt's Mohamed Salah and Morocco's Achraf Hakimi to the prominent
award - the first time a Nigerian has received the title since Nwankwo Kanu in

Nigeria has dualsuccess with Asisat Oshoala keeping the women's award - the sixth time the
Barcelona striker has won the honor.

The champions arevoted for by a panel made up of Caf's technical committee plus African media
professionals, head coaches and captains. Clubs concerned in the group stages
of Caf's continental contests also have a shout.

Osimhen victory

Nigeria and Napolistriker Osimhen, 24, was named to pick up the Caf award for the first time in
his career after an astral 2022-23 season.

He found the back ofthe net 26 times in 32 outings, including the crucial goal that conserved
the scudetto in May and won Napoli their first Serie A title in 33 years.

The ex Wolfsburg andLille striker was also named the Italian Footballers’ Association Player of the
year earlier this month after an terrific season.

Osimhen, who was bornin Lagos scored five goals in four Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualification
matches as his country got to next year's finals.

Victor also happen to be the first Nigerian to finish in the top 10 of the Ballon d'Or vote with an
eighth-place finish and was made a Member of the Federal Republic in Nigeria.

Oshoala of Barcelona made it a night to remember for Nigeria, coming out tops in the Women's Player of
the Year title for a record-prolonging sixth time.

The ex-Arsenal player who is 29-year-old, went to the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand this
year –holds the trophy she won last year.

She saw off competition from South Africa and Racing Louisville's Thembi Kgatlana and
Zambia and Shanghai Sengli's Barbra Banda.
